“Aromatherapy is an ancient holistic therapy using highly concentrated essential oils distilled from flowers, herbs, bark, roots and seeds,” explains GLOW founder, Sara.

“These natural healing oils improve and balance our physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. I would not be without them in my life and many of the products we use in our treatments and stock are based on aromatherapy – from Decléor to our Made for Life Wellbeing treatments and Nom Nom for mums-to-be.”

She adds, “Aromatherapy harnesses the very best nature has to offer. With their mood-enhancing abilities, and they never fail to uplift, relax and revive me.”

Rose Oil

Did you know one litre of Rose essential oil requires 5 tons of rose petals? Packed with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory elements to help heal and protect the surface of the skin, Rose oil also soothes, calms and reduces stress levels for that inner GLOW.

How does aromatherapy work?

Essential oils work in two ways:

  • by topical application to the skin
  • inhalation

Topical application

Applying these potent plant extracts onto the skin with massage oils, bath oils or skin creams can enhance our bodies and our wellbeing. They enter the bloodstream, causing positive chemical changes in the body and, depending on the specific oils chosen, are able to stimulate or relax, soothe or revitalise.

“But remember,” the GLOW specialists warn, “essential oils are so powerful and concentrated they should never be applied to the skin in an undiluted form. They are always combined with a carrier such as a sweet almond oil, apricot kernel oil or grapeseed oil.”

Inhalation of essential oils

“Just inhaling essential oils can have a dynamic effect on both our mind and body,” explains Sara. “Their powerful scent stimulates the olfactory system (the part of the brain connected to smell) and affects our mood, memory and emotions.”

On a physical level, the molecules enter the nose or mouth, pass to the lungs and from there, to other parts of the body where they improve muscular aches, boost circulation and act as an antioxidant.

Eucalyptus oil

The Australian Aborigines called Eucalyptus, ‘kino’ and revered it as a cure-all remedy. Its anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and analgesic properties make this oil a powerful, natural healer. Eucalyptus also delivers an intense dose of hydration, and locks in moisture to help your complexion GLOW.

Decléor Essential Oils Skincare

“I chose Decléor skincare for GLOW because they combine the most comprehensive, ecologically-sound range of aromatherapy products with over 40 years of expertise.

You can be sure that when you use Decléor that you’re treating yourself to the very best that science and nature has to offer. Their essential oils are sourced from renewable plants around the world, locally steam-distilled to ensure ultimate freshness and then professionally blended for pharmaceutical quality. “I simply adore them,” says Sara.

Neroli oil

This powerful and curative oil has been used for centuries for the body, mind and health. Also known as Bitter Orange oil, the delicate white, beautiful flowers are hand-picked and distilled quickly to ensure the petals keep their famous fragrance. Neroli oil is a hydration powerhouse with an incredible ability to soften, replenish and lock in moisture. And, thanks to its antibacterial purifying citrus properties, Neroli is the ultimate cleanser.

Sara’s personal favourites

“It’s so hard to single products out as there are so many amazing ones but I tried the new Essential Oil Cica Balm recently and was blown away. This repairing balm combines Eucalyptus, Rosemary, Niaouli and Geranium oils to soothe, repair and protect irritated or extremely dry skin. And it really, really heals. I’ve had a patch of flaky skin on the side of my nose for years – with Cica it’s gone! I also massaged some into my heels… and wow, are these really my feet?

“I’m a devotee of the Decléor Aromessence Night Balms too. They not only do wonders for my skin, but when I’m having trouble sleeping they relax and calm me and give me a deep sleep. There are several Night Balms to choose from – we’ll help you find the right fit for your skin and sleep needs, just book in for a free skin consultation at any of the GLOW salons.”
